FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book my move?

We recommend booking your move as soon as your date is confirmed to ensure availability of the team and your preferred time slot, especially on the South Shore, where demand can be high during certain periods of the year.

For a standard residential move, booking 2 to 4 weeks in advance is usually sufficient.
During peak periods, particularly between June 20 and July 2, we strongly suggest booking 8 to 10 weeks ahead, as availability fills up quickly around July 1st in Quebec.

That said, even for last-minute moves, we will always do our best to accommodate you based on availability.

What services do you offer?

At Brossard and South-Shore Movers, we offer a full range of moving services for both residential and commercial clients, whether your move is simple or more complex.

  • Residential and commercial moving: Homes, apartments, offices, and commercial spaces handled efficiently and professionally.

  • Local and long-distance moving: Moves across the South Shore, throughout Quebec, Ontario, and neighboring provinces.

  • Furniture assembly and installation: Disassembly, reassembly, and setup at your new location.

  • Professional packing services: Secure packing using proper techniques and materials.

  • Secure storage solutions: Short- and long-term heated storage options.

How do you calculate moving costs?

We offer clear and transparent pricing with no hidden fees.

  • Local residential and commercial moves are billed hourly, based on the number of movers and truck size, with packing services included if required.

  • Long-distance moves are quoted at a flat rate, calculated according to distance, volume, access conditions, and required services.

A detailed estimate is always provided in advance.

Which items are prohibited in the moving truck?

For safety and compliance reasons, certain items cannot be transported during a move. These include hazardous or flammable materials such as gasoline, propane, chemicals, paint, solvents, and fireworks.

Firearms, ammunition, and illegal items are not accepted. We also do not transport perishable food, plants that are sensitive to extended transport, or high-value personal items such as cash, jewelry, important documents, or irreplaceable valuables.

If you are unsure whether a specific item can be moved, we recommend informing us in advance so we can guide you properly and avoid any issues on moving day.

Should I empty my drawers before the move?

Yes, we recommend emptying drawers before moving day. This allows your furniture to be transported more safely and efficiently.

Empty drawers reduce the risk of damage to furniture and help prevent injuries during handling. They also make items lighter and easier to move, especially dressers, desks, and other large pieces. Items left inside drawers can shift during transport, increasing the risk of breakage or scratches.

Small, lightweight items should be packed separately in clearly labeled boxes to stay organized. If you are unsure about a specific piece of furniture, our team will be happy to advise you in advance to avoid any surprises.

What happens in case of damage or loss?

We take every precaution to protect your belongings and operate with full insurance coverage, including cargo and liability insurance. Despite careful planning and strict procedures, unforeseen situations can occasionally occur.

If damage is reported during the move, we promptly assess the situation. Whenever possible, repairs are prioritized. If repair is not feasible and the item is covered, we work with you to provide fair compensation, in accordance with the applicable coverage terms.

Our claims process is simple and well-structured, and cases are typically resolved within 2 to 4 weeks, ensuring clear communication and transparent follow-up.

Do you offer packing services for moving?

Yes. We provide professional packing services designed to simplify your move and reduce the stress of preparation. Our team can take care of everything, including the secure packing of fragile items, organizing contents, and properly protecting your belongings for transport.

We supply all necessary materials, such as boxes, bubble wrap, packing tape, and other specialized supplies. Whether you need full-home packing or partial packing for specific items, we tailor the service to your needs.

Packing services are billed hourly, and only the materials actually used are added to the invoice.

How should I prepare my appliances and large items?

Proper preparation of your appliances and large furniture helps ensure a smoother move and reduces the risk of damage. Here are our main recommendations:

  • Refrigerators and freezers: Empty them completely, defrost them at least 24 hours in advance, and secure any removable shelves or drawers. If the appliance will be placed in storage, leave a small gap in the door (for example, using cardboard) to allow airflow and prevent odors or mold.

  • Washing machines and dryers: Disconnect the units and drain all water hoses. For washing machines, secure the drum using the manufacturer-recommended transit bolts.

  • Stoves and ovens: Clean thoroughly to remove grease or food residue. Gas appliances must be safely disconnected, with proper safety caps installed.

  • Dishwashers: Drain and disconnect the water lines. Disconnection and reconnection should be performed by a qualified professional to avoid plumbing or electrical issues.

  • Large furniture: Empty drawers, secure loose or moving parts, and disassemble beds, tables, or other large items when possible to make handling easier.

  • Electronics and TVs: Whenever possible, pack flat-screen TVs in their original boxes or in specialized TV boxes. Secure cables and accessories in clearly labeled bags.

Do you offer storage services?

Yes. We offer secure, heated storage solutions, available through our own storage facilities as well as our trusted partner network across the Greater Montreal area.

Your belongings are stored in clean, monitored, temperature-controlled facilities, ensuring protection at all times. Storage options are flexible and available short-, medium-, or long-term, depending on your needs.

What payment methods do you accept?

We offer flexible payment options to make your experience simple and convenient. The remaining balance is typically due at the end of the move, once the service has been completed.

We accept the following payment methods:

  • Cash

  • Credit cards (major cards accepted)

  • Interac e-Transfer

A credit card deposit may be required at the time of booking in order to secure your reserved time slot. The exact terms are always clearly explained at the time of confirmation.

For commercial clients with an active account, invoice billing is also available.

Can you move specialty or heavy items?

Yes, absolutely. It is important to notify us in advance if your move includes specialty items such as pianos, antiques, safes, or other heavy or delicate objects. This allows us to properly plan the move and assign a team with the appropriate equipment and expertise to handle these items safely and efficiently.

Depending on the type of item, an additional charge for specialty handling or weight may apply to cover the extra resources and precautions required. All details are clearly explained before moving day.

What is your cancellation or rescheduling policy?

We understand that plans can change, which is why we have a clear and transparent cancellation policy in place.

  • Deposit refund: The deposit is fully refundable if the cancellation request is received at least 14 days before the scheduled moving date.

  • Future credit: If the cancellation occurs less than 14 days before the scheduled date, a credit equal to the deposit amount will be issued and may be applied to a future move with our company.

  • Last-minute cancellations or changes: Cancellations or date changes made within 48 hours of the scheduled move are not eligible for a refund or credit.

  • Peak season: Deposits for moves scheduled between June 24 and July 2 are non-refundable due to the very high demand during this period.

If you have any questions or need to modify your reservation, please contact our team and we’ll be happy to assist you.
